Storage:
Cabbage can be stored for weeks in your refrigerator crisper. To store late fall or winter cabbage, you will need near freezing temperatures and humidity. You can hang cabbages in a moist root cellar in old panty hose, or by their roots in the joists. Or, spread cabbages one layer deep on shelves or pallets, allowing for air circultation. Store only disease-free heads.

Preparation:
For recipes, you'll want to cut the cabbage in half, possibly into wedges and using an angle cut, remove the core.

Recipes:

Even kids will eat cabbage if it is cooked this way:

Cabbage Ribbons with Noodles and Brown Butter Sauce
1 lb egg noodles or fettucine
1 head green cabbage sliced into ribbons the same width as noodles
4 Tbsp. butter cut into small pieces
salt and pepper to taste

Boil egg noodles or fettucine in salted water. Meanwhile, slice cabbage into similar-sized ribbons. Add cabbage in the last 3 minutes of cooking so it will be just tender. Drain and reserve in
pan. In a small saucepan or skillet, heat 4 T of butter over moderate heat. Bring to a boil. Skim off any foam and allow butter to brown, but not burn. Pour butter over pasta and toss. Add additional salt and pepper as desired, serve hot.
